Tis the Season to be Sneezing

With Spring well under way, we love spending time outside and enjoying the beauty of nature. The outdoors can be a source of rejuvenation, joy, and serenity; however, they can also be a source of allergies. Contrary to common belief, we do not have to turn to over-the-counter drugs for relief of these symptoms. One of the easiest ways to treat and prevent allergic symptoms is to change your diet. Foods to try to eat are garlic, lemon, leafy greens, local honey, apple cider vinegar, and foods that are full of probiotics such as yogurt and kefir. In general, they help to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation. Another tool that is extremely effective (and kind of fun to use) is the Neti Pot. It flushes your sinuses by pouring a saline solution in one nostril and allowing it to flow out through the other. Certain essential oils can also be used to reduce allergic symptoms. Every person’s body will respond differently to nature and to these remedies, so it is a matter of figuring out what works best for you.
